INTERVIEW PREPARATION

Before you interview prepare!

Make three lists:

Features, Advantages, and Benefits

This list is just for you, so put as many things on it as you want.

bullet

Name every FEATURE why this company should hire you for this position.  Whether its your industry knowledge, your punctuality, or your good looks, list it!

Then describe how that FEATURE has been an advantage to your previous employers.  You then describe how it will BENEFIT your new employer.  MY FEATURE:  I can talk for recruiting for 10 hours a day and never get tired.   ADVANTAGE: I wrote more business for my previous employer than any other recruiter in the history of his 40-year-old business.  BENEFIT: With the new opportunity, I will continue to utilize this feature!

bullet

You must make a list of every question you have about the job and the company that you need answered before you can accept an offer.

bullet

This last list that you create is your requirements.  Make it and the put in your back pocket until the company calls your recruiter and says:  "We want your candidate!"   This would include EVERYTHING you need in order to be happy about accepting an offer, resigning your current position, and never looking back.

This should include salary (we can help calculate things like cost of living differences or you can go to our links page and check out one of the cost of living calculators).  It should also include all relocation, insurance, and benefits you require.   Make sure you include everything.  Then you put this list in your pocket and forget about it until you have proven to the company that they need to make an offer.  Of course be sure to review all of these things with your recruiter to ensure that the company can provide you with your requirements prior to your visit to the facility.

Tips for success:

l Dress 1 or 2 levels above the position that you are interviewing for.

l Bring several copies of your resume and your list of references in a

small binder.

l Be prepared with specific examples of work you have done that will

emphasize your experience.

l Never say anything bad about a former employer.

l Reason for leaving is always a better opportunity.

l Under salary desired, write "negotiable".

If you have done all of this you can relax, you are prepared.  Make sure that you keep in touch with your recruiter. Supply feedback on your interview immediately.  If you can, call from the Airport when you are waiting for your return flight or if you drive call right away when you get home.

The immediate feedback allows your recruiter to build on the excitement that you have already created and keep the process moving.  Even if you don't want the job, still call us immediately so that we eliminate any additional expenditures by the company and allow them to move on to other candidates.
